Central Hospital Sharjah is a full-fledged, multi-disciplinary hospital with Out-patient and In-patient facilities. It was established in the year of 1987 as a polyclinic which has been expanded in 2002 to a hospital offering a wide range of medical and surgical specialties.

Central Hospital Sharjah started the journey to accreditation in 2017. The purpose was to provide quality and safe services to patients. Through the process of accreditation, we achieved a world class healthcare institution. This was done by standardisation of our processes and systems.
The process of accreditation also strengthen patients’ trust. We have set a high bar for patient safety. Our focus is on quality of care. Central Hospital Sharjah provides a safe and efficient work environment for our staff. Joint Commission International (JCI) which accredits the highest number of hospitals each year is recommended by Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and the Ministry of Health (MOH). To obtain Accreditation with them was our obvious choice. The strategy used was simple. Our staff set about to do it themselves and to build the culture of quality within the organisation. A dedicated quality department involving doctors and clinicians was established. We developed quality systems. Using this process we successfully achieved JCI accreditation.
During the Accreditation process Central Hospital, Sharjah underwent a rigorous on-site audit for three days each. A team of Joint Commission International expert surveyors evaluated compliance with hospital standards in a variety of areas.
These included the International Patient Safety Goals, Patient Assessment and Care, Anaesthesia and Surgical care, Medication Management, Patient and Family Education in the clinical areas. In non clinical areas – Quality Improvement, Infection Prevention and Control,
Governance & Leadership, Facility Management, Staff Qualifications and Education, and Information Management were looked at. The team of surveyors found the hospital policies and procedures were in compliance with the JCI 6th edition hospital standards. We were awarded the Gold Seal From JCI.
Post accreditation, Central Hospital has ongoing efforts in ensuring full compliance with the JCI hospital standards.. The accreditation process has helped us in identifying critical components of patient safety. We continue to build systems and processes to ensure safety with an increase in our patient satisfaction rates.
